The Uncommon Turbine is being built at the University of Chicago by a group of undergrads. The project was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Student Government New Initiatives Fund, enabling us to move from concept to reality. Check back often for updates on our progress.
A significant portion of research being done at leading academic institutions is
directly related to the growing threat posed by global climate change. While many of the University of Chicago’s academic peers have become leaders in such research and have taken measures to become more sustainable themselves, the University of Chicago has lagged severely, as evidenced by its grade of D+ in the Sustainable Endowments Institute’s College Sustainability Report Card. By building and donating an innovative wind turbine to the University, we hope to raise awareness of sustainability issues here amongst students, faculty and the administration.
